Inclusiveness, Ten Percent Happier, & Daring Greatly

Welcome to the May 2019 edition of ‘The Monthly Mindset,’ an email series where Katie Stricker, President and Co-founder, shares a few things she’s thinking about, plus a look into what Sayge is up to.

Workplace trend, innovation, or idea I’m thinking about—

Inclusiveness versus diversity. I recently spoke with a friend in HR about her approach to diversity and inclusion. She said inclusion is at the forefront. Noting how diversity without inclusion misses the mark. On this topic, I just read a really great Fast Company article, 5 things you’re getting wrong in setting diversity goals. Here’s the line that stood out to me: “Short-term diversity goals should always ladder back up to the long-term goal of full representation and inclusion…”

What I’m reading or listening to—

People who know me best, know that I’m a big fan of the Ten Percent Happier Podcast with Dan Harris. He has great guests! This week I listened to #185 with Brene Brown, Vulnerability: The Key to Courage. It’s a great listen if the concept is something you struggle with. Spoiler alert… the woman who leads the topic also struggles with it!

Quote I’m thinking about—

“Getting a no simply means = NEXT.” Not sure who to attribute that to, but I heard it in a workshop this weekend and I’m pondering it deeply.

What we’re up to at Sayge—

As we move into summer, our team is preparing to attend a boatload of conferences, like The Culture Summit in SF. We’ll also be hosting Sayge happy hours and hopefully sharing more about Sayge on panels and interviews.
