Flexible Work, Atomic Habits, & Inspiring People

Welcome to the July 2019 edition of ‘The Monthly Mindset,’ an email series where Katie Stricker, President and Co-founder, shares a few things she’s thinking about, plus a look into what Sayge is up to.

Workplace trend, innovation, or idea I’m thinking about—

In the midst of summer, flexible work options and remote working are all the buzz. In a recent survey, the majority of employees ranked the best summer perk as “flexible schedules” (52%). That said, although working remotely may be top-of-mind during summer, it isn’t a come-and-go seasonal trend. In fact, a 2019 Future Workforce Report predicts that by 2028, 73% of all teams will have remote workers.

Since Sayge is a diversified team by design—we have coaches across the US, in Canada and Ireland, plus advisors and customers all across the country—I’ve been thinking about how to balance a few things: a human-centric approach to business, distributed collaboration, and the integration of tech.

What I’m reading or listening to—

I’m currently reading Atomic Habits, a New York Times bestseller by James Clear. Spoiler alert: When repeated hundreds or thousands of times, small habits can compound into huge results. In the context of flexible work, habit-building is super relevant. When working remotely, consistent habits are imperative to getting things done. Here’s an incredibly thoughtful article on the topic: 5 Habits for Crafting the Perfect Remote Work Day. It’s way richer than a standard listicle!

Quote I’m thinking about—

This quote is in one of my email signatures. I always appreciate being reminded of the sentiment.

“Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire people to do.” —Unknown

What we’re up to at Sayge—

It’s summer! Since many people are on break, it’s a good opportunity for us to get our coaches together! In August, we are bringing as many of our coaches as possible together in NYC to toast the summer.
